A Question

If the USA was hit by a tsunami, how many nations would come to our aid?

I'm just curious what you think, and why you feel that way. One way or the other.

Also, in keeping with the spirit of the UN, and Kofi Anan, I have but one thing to say: KISS MY ASS!!!

400 Miles In 5 Hours

I did not meet the mission parameters, so I failed.

It was wishful thinking, to start with.

I was forced by Hurricanes past, to take a more circuitous route. Both lanes of I-40 east are still gone, which meant we had to take the “old” road across the mountains (or sit still in one lane of uphill traffic for an hour). Beautiful drive, but slow. At least we were moving. Also, my 8:00 pm curfew on liquid consumption the night before was ineffective (ignored); I guess, when you must go, you must go. I can’t argue that, but why would I?

Three stops…two for bladder maintenance, and one for gas. I couldn’t make it on one tank, but I was booking it all the same. It was close, yet she (my wife) refused to use the bucket.

Anyway, we made it safe in 5 hours and 50 minutes, which means I owe Velociman a sawbuck.

I swear if I-40 E was a clean shot…I could do it easy.

To Be More Effective

That is my only resolution for the coming year.

I'm not giving up anything; in fact, I hope to fine-tune all of my habits, both good and bad. Maybe add some more of both, but...

...I will become more effective.

Breaking For Home

Tomorrow, I'm going to attempt to do 400 miles in 5 hours. I'm not sure I can do it on one tank; it'll be close. I've already informed Brer Wife that she isn't allowed to drink anything after 8:00 pm. tonight.

I'll have a bucket onboard, just is case.

Hacked?

There is more to this than meets the eye. There is no way these cancellations and delays were caused by the storm that spanked Ohio a few days ago. No way the storm crashed Comair's computer system that manages flight assignments.

Storms don't crash computer systems.

No way... Look at the timing...

Something else was going on.

Shirt Off My Back People

The End Is Near.

I've been doing this blog shit for a little over a year. It’s been fun, but you know what was more funner?

Meeting these people in person.

Ladies first.

Key: She is prettier than I imagined, and smarter than that. Her husband is a lucky man. She’s a 10. Seriously. Just proves I’ve got good taste.

Kelley: A true Southern Woman. I would love more time with her. We’ve got many more conversations to navigate.

OK boys.

Acidman: Straight Up, Straight Down, Straight All Around. Well maybe not straight (I don’t mean that in a queer sense), but true to his guns. I admire that.

Catfish: Tells it like it is. No bullshit whatsoever. I admire that.

Eric The Blade: I want him on my team. Enough said. I admire that.

Velociman: I envy you my friend. A true commander of your life. I admire that.

These folks are what I call “shirt off my back people”.

Short and sweet, but y’all know what I mean.

A First

I've been married for eleven years, and this is the first year we're spending Christmas together, alone. Just us and that damn puppy. All of our family lives out of town, and we're not going anywhere until next week. How cool is that?

We're dug in, and looking forward to the Christmas feast we'll prepare tomorrow, and a lazy ass weekend.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, but I also enjoy time alone with my wife. Anyway, we'll be scooting out next week to take care of our family obligations.

Peace and Goodwill to all.

"It was a holiday party. It was not a Christmas party. There is a separation of church and state. We have a lot of students that go to Hampton Academy Junior High that have different religions. We have to be sensitive to that."

I strongly disagree with this.

Bottle Rocket To The Neck

St. Augustine, July 4th, 1976, Nighttime

We were on the 3rd floor balcony of an apartment overlooking the Matanzas River between the Bridge of Lions and the Castillo de San Marcos, drinking heavily, watching the flotilla, and shooting three foot bottle rockets. I was the head aimer. It was my job to ensure the launch trajectory was high enough to clear the crowd and the ships as they sailed by. We had about a hundred of these rockets, and after a few shots, I had my launcher rig dialed in. DO NOT touch my rig, I told everyone. Its perfect

I went inside to get another beverage, and when I returned, some dumb ass was whooieing with my launcher. I told him to back off, and started to check the angle. It looked good to me, even though I was probably seeing two of em; I dont remember. Worst case, Id have to make a minor adjustment. Wrong.

I slid another rocket down the tube, and lit her up. Well, that damn rocket went about 50 feet, and then did a downward sideways loop right into the crowd. It hit some guy right in the neck, and exploded. Ka Bam. He was down like a sack of potatoes.

Well, we all broke for the back door, and ran full tilt to the St. George Tavern a few blocks away, and continued our evening.

Later, we heard from a guy, who knew a guy, who knew another guy, who knew the paramedic on the scene. The guy who took the bottle rocket to the neck was OK, just some burns and bruising, and his equilibrium was whacked out for a while, but he made a full recovery.

To this day, I cannot believe we got away with that one.

Eating, Drinking, And Bullshitting

The other night I stayed with an old college buddy, and we just sat around reminiscing about the good ol’ days. It’s good for you to do that every now and then. Looking back on some of the shit we did, it’s amazing we aren’t both in jail. We were wild, not just wild, but crazy. We didn’t know where the off button was…that’s a fact.

I hope the current batch of college kids are as clever as we were, cause we never got caught.

I believe several years of being on ten, and having absolutely no respect for anything, is good for you. Builds character. It makes you appreciate life, when you finally slow down.

Just a thought.

Ice Driving

I just returned to The Brier Patch from a clockwise loop through Virginia. When I awoke this morning, it was 11 degrees, and there was about a half inch of ice and a couple of inches of snow. No big deal. Wrong. I was on I-64, I-95, and I-85, and I’ve never seen so many horrible accidents in such a short period of time. I’m not talking fender benders; I’m talking crushed, twisted, unidentifiable masses of metal. People severely hurt or killed.

I don’t care what kind of vehicle you drive, nothing works on ice. Even Yankees can’t drive in that shit. You folks be careful out there.

Speaking Of Money...

...and Toys...

I’m doing a loop through Virginia, and I’ve been hanging with some people who are familiar with a certain “band” that was born here. They have done well.

Anyway, the drummer just built himself a 25,000 sq. ft. house. Good for him.

What I want to talk about is the basement. The Basement.

Full size pool, Game room, Pool room Hall, Spa / Weight room, etc., Movie theater, Bar – as in Irish Pub, and, get this…

A real 747-flight simulator.

My friend asked me: Do you think he’s Al Qaeda?

The Other Side Of The Ditch

I was born on the wrong other side of the tracks.

One thing is for certain; you have no say where you’re born. Boy or girl, black or white…you have no control. You are what you are. You would do well to remember that.

I know some people who believe they were born superior. They truly believe that destiny heritage allows them to treat people like shit. They believe, since they inherited a fortune from daddy, that they earned it. They believe they are better than me others. This makes me sick.

I know a lot of unhappy wealthy people.

Fuck ‘em.

I’m just saying.

Me, I come from the other side of the ditch.

For all you assholes from the other side of the tracks:

Get Down

It’s freezing my ass off finally cold enough for a heavy coat, and I prefer goose down to synthetic filler, or wool. Wool will keep you warm even if it’s soaking wet, but it’s heavy and cumbersome. I left my Navy Pea Coat in the closet years ago. Coats stuffed with synthetic filler dry faster than down, but are not as warm. A goose down coat, with a waterproof shell, is the only way to go.

This is just my personal preference.

Handgun Buffet

I made it back from the most intense mission 24 hours I’ve experienced in a long time. These people could put a rugby club to shame.

I finally got to meet my Internet Chic in person, and I’m telling you, she is an absolute killer, a real head turner who wears weapons on her feet.

Kelley is a classic Southern Woman whose stamina is remarkable. If I’d been as under the weather as she was, I couldn’t of made the trip.

My Blogfather Acidman is intense, yet laid back at the same time. I believe he lives every day like it might be his last. Don’t ever let him hand you a loaded gun. Anyway, now that we’ve met, I can call him by his first name. It was a pleasure to make your acquaintance Rob.

Catfish will tell it like it is, and is the type of guy you like to have around. The bearer of fresh moonshine and other assorted felonies.

The Single Southern Guy is going to have to change his name in the future, if he can remember what it was. If not, I’m sure his girlfriend can clue him in.

The Straight White Guy and the Straight White Wife were a pleasure to be around. I was his drink boy, but trust me; I wasn’t going to argue for fear of the blade.

Velociman and the Mutant are one and the same. I agree with Rob on this. It’s good to have either one of ‘em watching your back.

I wish This Guy had shown up, but I did get to talk to him on the phone.

These folks take having a good time seriously, and I’m amazed the cops didn’t show up. Although, we did get the warning call.

Call The Ball

I'm sure everyone is familier with "Calling the Ball".

Call the Ball - A radio transmission to a pilot requesting that he report when he has sighted the BALL during approach to the carrier, or the action of reporting same. Typically consists of SIDE NUMBER, aircraft type (to ensure proper ARRESTING GEAR settings), and amount of fuel onboard in thousands of pounds, e.g. '205 Tomcat ball, 3.5'.

Well, it has a different meaning here in The Brier Patch.

For example:

My phone rings.

Me: "Hello"

Wife: "This is SANDBOX to base, over:

Me: "What?"

Wife: "I'm on final, and I'm calling the ball."

What this really means is that she has a bunch of stuff in the car, is about to pull into the driveway, and wants me to meet her outside and haul all the shit inside.

True Story.

Works for me.

Sheer Determination

The Truckonauts

I say we let 'em in. Should've done it the first time. We can always use more engineers.

Unlike the Mexican border situation, these people are fleeing political persecution.

This is a different shade of grey.

We've Got To See It Through

Good News

US troops will be boosted significantly in Iraq. We’ve got to do what we have to do, and since we’ve got ‘em on the run, we can’t stop now.

I was having a meaningful discussion argument with a lefter today, and he was all bent out of shape about how the U.S. must leave Iraq ASAP. He pretty much insinuated that if the U.S. didn’t, the end of the world was close. When I reminded him that 90 + % of the troops don’t want to leave, and that they say if we don’t finish what the IslamoFascists started, we’ll be back in ten years; he STFU. No comeback.

For future reference: If you prove to tell a lefter, that 90% of the people they want to make decisions for, disagree with them, they melt.

I love it when that happens.
