Crosswind Landings

I've flown a gazillion times in good and bad weather, but the 2nd to worse commercial flight I've ever been on involved a crosswind landing. Landing at DFW during a pretty good storm around dusk...I thought it might really be over. The pilot...well she did a bang up job of not killing us all...calm cool and collected is bullshit...because by the time I could thank her...she was visibly shaking. We were damn lucky, and she knew it.

The first time we touched down, everything flew out of the overhead compartments, the oxygen masks deployed, the older lady sitting next to me took a shit in her pants...people were crying and screaming...stuff was flying everywhere...it was a mess. A second or two later when we slammed into the runway again...it was chaos...but she was able to straighten the plane out and stop it. It was a Boeing 727, and it was a lucky day.

I have to admit...I thought I was a goner for a moment.

The pilot did a remarkable job; and to this day I believe she saved my life.

You cannot cheat the wind.

I dont think theres anything in this world besides the usual suspects of evils isms that could simultaneously piss me and scare the shit out of me as much as a plane coming in for so crappy a landing that it immediately has to take off again. Gott damn, that would upset me greatly.

Piss me OFF...I meant to say. Leaving out crucial words to complete a thought...that also pisses me off, but on a much smaller scale.

..... I landed (as a passenger) at Dutch Harbor, Alaska in a C-130...... check the runway there.. and then check the turn radius of a C-130..... then check the angles..... bloody hell, man.....

..... craziest landing that I have EVER sat in on.......

"You cannot cheat the wind", true dat, but it can cheat you, especially if you're "older".

Never trust a fart.
