Parallels
For the hell of it.
I just slapped Parallels on my new iMac. Why, you might ask...I need the ODBC drivers that connect my database with Access...easy way out. I don't have the time to slow dance...I need to glide one in right now.
I need quick solutions...no time to fuck around...no time to fuck around with anything. The shit has to work from the get-go. No time to tune.
I installed the latest and greatest version of Microshit Vista and a full clip of latest and greatest Office. I need Access to move data into Excel. I know I know...I really don't care, but I don't have time to fuck with it.
Bottom Line: This new Windows piece of shit Operating System is more stable running under a Virtual machine under MAC/OS, than it is running standalone on an Intel box.
I'm just sayin'
I swear to the Maker...*NIX rocks...Fuck Windows.

Cool, get Open Office, and a *nix ODBC driver. You can shitcan anything M$ then.
That, um, might take some time though.
If your data means anything at all to you, you need to get out of those platform-locked formats. Move to PostgreSQL, SQLite, or anything else. Streaming data's the way to go, man. Nothing meaningful can be expressed in 65535 rows, anyway, and Excel will barf on that.
OpenOffice's spreader, on the other hand, starts choking on 60 rows. What a POS that is. When I import a 200-line table, it brings my dual Xeon RHEL 5 machine to its knees!
On second thought, just download DOSBox (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/) and an old copy of Lotus 1-2-3 2.2. At least running in 640K is a valid reason to underperform.
I knew you were going to say that...I love it, personally. The senior chief has been kind enough to keep his bitching to a minimum...
Except to replace a hard drive a couple weeks ago the last time I had to reboot was when I installed Vista on this thing back at the end of May.
No stability problems here. I still prefer Windows 2000 or Debian to it but it's all about compatibility.
