Cavities and Bottled Water
I was having a conversation with one of my good friends, who is a DDS, and he was telling me that children are getting many more cavities than they were years ago. You know why? Their parents are feeding them bottled water. Until recently, bottled water had no Fluoride. It can be argued that the bottled water revolution has led to the demise of oral hygiene. The sales for bottled water are estimated to be between $50 and $100 billion (US) annually. Can you believe that? That is some folding money.
I'm not saying I don't drink bottled water, I do, but I am saying there are three things I hate to pay for...bottled water, ice, and wood.
Was it not the French who started this bottled water stuff in the first place?
Fuck the French.
Seriously, I'm not plugging any product for anyone...but there are several "toothpastes" that contain boo coo sodium fluoride. My friend tells me you need at least 1.1% sodium fluoride. It costs a little more, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Bad teeth equals big life problems. I know some people who are in some deep shit. You cannot grow new teeth. Once they're fucked...you're fucked.

There is an entire segment of the population who consider fluoride to be a poison... one assumes on par with arsenic. In other words they think it's horrible to poison your child that way.
I'm just a tad too old to have had fluoride in the water as a very young child... as a result my teeth are crap... I have to work very hard to take care of them. I would personally take being poisoned if it would have kept me from having the copious amounts of dental work I needed over the years.
Teresa, I find it interesting that being cool is not exactly being right. In the beginning...bottled water was cool.
We're beginning to pay for it now.
Ya know (knock wood), I'm 31 years old and I've never had a cavity, because New York--believe it or not--has some of the world's best-tasting drinking water.
I drink bottled, too, but only if it's really hot and I'm not at home, and I'm suffering to the point of almost passing out. I always keep my tap water refrigerated. It's good stuff.
My husband and I were just discussing this. There is more going on now too. More sticky chewy crap people are feeding their children and babies. More sugary drinks.... more juice boxes and junk.
I don't have floridated water (I'm on well), but I've never allowed my kids to eat the crap (especially not as babies) and drink fake juice or lots of juice for that matter. My kids only drink water...
So I think it is a combo. I think the floridated water helped offset the crap people were feeding their kids, but I think that the onus is really with shitty parenting. Babies don't need gummy treats and bottles full of sugar water.
It took me awhile to find you over here... I need to update my site now. ;-)
