I have been thinking about Vertical Takeoff and Landing Technology.

Interesting technology, but I think it is all about supply, or re-supply. Look at a military application.

What good is the ability to land a fighter or bomber behind enemy lines if you cannot refuel or rearm it? Maintenance?

If you try to take off from the woods, the engines will suck up everything in sight. Not good.

It is all about the gas.

Just thinking.

The biggest advantage of this type of jet is the smaller platform needed to take off and land. Thus the Navy now has some small carriers used for amphibious operations, like the LHD class. This class of carrier carries, Harrier jets and helicopters. Plus it has a well deck that can be flooded to launch amphibious assault vessels. It looks like it has merged the LSD with a small carrier like the Viet Nam era carrier the IwO Jima which only carried helocopters.
