Windows, Rain on the Brain

The Windows Operating System is a piece of shit!!!

MS SQL Server is a joke.

IIS is a joke.

I'm just saying!

*UPDATE* I was unaware of this when I put this post up.

It's all perspective, man. I just spent 11 hours setting up a Linux Samba PDC for an office of about 8 desktops. 11 hours for the freakin' *SERVER!* OK, it's a honker, with 6 drives, 2 raid controllers and what-not, but still...I spent most of that time googlin' Samba error messages.

At least when you install a Windows Server, the shit works for a bit, then you GET PAID to clean up the virii and worms that start poking their heads out after the first week.

You sell a Linux box on the premise that there's no maintenance involved, no re-booting, no virus updates, no ad-aware. Uptimes are roughly equivalent to service intervals, and that leans towards The Beast, unfortunately.

But yeah, IIS, I've seen better web servers on cell phones. What a POS.

Being a paid IT professional, I can't help but say a few things to this (and no, I don't work for the geek squad):

(1) Yes, it is all perspective, however you forgot to mention one thing: If a Windows server box is properly set up and secured, it'll beat the pants off of any Linux machine next to it. I just retired an old Windows NT box that was running for over 320 days straight, no reboot. Patches? No. I had it firewalled out of the whazoo to strictly two client user machines only. No other access was allowed at all. The old NT server worked great.

As far as IIS is concerned, it's only as good as the administrator who set up it, configured it, secures it, and maintains it. If one doesn't know what they're doing, it sure will get hacked, etc. I run multiple sites at work, all Windows 2003 Server boxes with SQL 2000 backends....all working...never a problem. Really, it's all personal opinion, but still...I thought I'd make mine known here, and at least I don't have to know crypytic, archaic terminal commands to do my job. ;-)
