A Buck And A Half Isn't Enough
U.S. District Judge Marsha Pechman, however, did not give the Minnesota teen the maximum 37-month sentence, saying Parson wrote malicious software and used it to attack other computers partly because of neglectful upbringing and supervision.
Neglectful upbringing and supervision?
Give my a break!

I absolutely hate this kid.
Just because this loser managed to convince a non-techie judge (who probably calls her grandson to help her check her e-mail) that he is a poor, innocent widdle boy making a plea for Mummy's attention doesn't mean he should not be held liable for his actions.
Since the standard tech support response to a virus continues to be wipe/reload/recovery to the visibly non-tech, perhaps the difference could be spent in assisting grandmothers with data recovery after a virus hit. And explaining to these grandmothers why someone would want to write a virus that would destroy pictures of their grandbabies, and why it isn't personal, and why Bill Gates is evil, not to mention who exactly Bill Gates is and what he has to do with pictures of their grandbabies.
Lecturing at grade schools, churches, etc., on the importance of internet security (free virus data recovery after the speeches, of course), data backup and spyware removal tools.
I think what really pisses me off is society's willingness to place blame on the parents. What happened to making the kids responsible for their actions?
