Do you blog for yourself, or do you blog for what you believe others will think of you?
I blog for myself. And regardless of what others think, I have to live with myself and stare back at my own reflection in the mirror. I don't live for other people, therefore, I do not write for other people.
Do you want people to read your personal thoughts and opinions, or do you want the traffic?
I only want people to read my thoughts and opinions if they find them valuable. My traffic is very light anyhow, and the few readers I have seem loyal. That is enough for me.
What do you hope to gain from blogging?
Insight about myself. The ability to vent and explore my feelings. It's almost a therapy for me...
Honest Questions?
Only if the answers to them are honest.
That's a good question, Sam. I hope you get a lot of answers. I guess I started doing it just because I like to tell stories, jokes, and occasionally comment about things I see going on in the world that strike me as ironic, funny or interesting. I do it for me, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't care about the traffic. Most who do this have an ego and want some kind of reassurance that visitors like what they see. How about you?
1. I absolutely blog for myself. If people like what I write, fine; if not, they're free to not come back.
2. You don't write in a medium like this if you don't want to be read. As for the traffic, I don't even have a site meter, so I don't have a clue as to how much traffic I get. A better indicator is comments -- and until I switch from Blogger, which makes it VERY difficult to leave comments, I probably won't have many of those.
3. Discipline in my writing; i.e., making the effort to write something every day. Also, it's a way of clarifying my own thought processes. Finally, I've made some dandy friends this way, and am looking forward to making a few more.
