I'm closing comments after 7 days now using the script that John Donovan found (check the link in the comments to She Who Will Be Obeyed! at her post on comment spammers).

My comment spam has essentially disappeared since I started doing that.

Have you tried MT-Blacklist? It's worked for me. I had gotten to where I was sometimes getting up to 50 spam comments within a couple of days, but I've gotten it under control with MT-Blacklist.

Yeah, I got a little carried away. I thought about taking this post down, but I want y'all to feel my pain. I do use MT-Blacklist, and should probably do as Jack does, and close my comments when they are X days old...BUT WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO THAT.

Just in case I ever capture one of 'em, I've been researching Torture.
